Default 2017 Q7 Pricing

I have a local dealer that still has a number of 2017 Q7s in stock. Since the 2018s are out, what types of discounts are common for the remaining 2017s? I've owned many BMWs (currently looking to trade-in my X5) and am aware of how BMW pricing/discounting works. Audi has always been a bit different.

Thanks.

I got my 2017 Q7 in mid-July, the Q7s of 2018 vintage were not available yet. I could not wait 3-4 weeks for the 2018 to arrive (not to mention to order from scratch and wait 3-4 months) as I needed a new vehicle ASAP after finalizing buyback option with my diesel VW Touareg. I was able to get Q7 at $150 below invoice from Audi Richfield in Twin Cities.

Thanks. Same dealership offered me $500 below invoice yesterday. Were you happy with the experience there?

The dealer will love you if you take a 2017 for $500 below invoice.

It is best to think of discounts as percent off MSRP. I believe invoice is 7% off. So one can get a 2018 at invoice.

So $500 below invoice may be only about $500 better than a 2018. You will more than lose that when you sell the car later, as it will be a year older model year. Also 2017 is probably more likely to have problems, and in fact, people have reported lots of problems and JD Powers gave it a low initial quality report.

For me, I would want a few thousand more off, so maybe 10-12% off a 2017? Or maybe $1500-$3000 below invoice. Note that in the Premium Plus, the 2018 comes with BOSE, and the 2017 has it as an option. And the Prestige comes with soft-close doors that are not on the 2017, unless you get the luxury package.

Also, no sense in quoting discounts without knowing if there was a trade in. Whenever there is a trade in, it is impossible to know what discount they actually got. And, when dealer financing is done, they get a commission, so that also messes up the known discount.

And be careful of port options. They often add up to $950 of junk to pad the price. I was able to get the stuff deleted, but only because it was not at the port yet.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

Dealers are tight in Minneapolis and supply is short on the Q7. I do not disagree with you, your numbers are where I typically get BMWs at.

I will keep working it.

It may be that they really can't easily do much more off a 2017 than a 2018.

See what you find for 2018 inventory and get one for 7% off. Screen capture everyone who got 7 or more percent off on a 2018 and email it to all of the dealers asking them to match it. I accepted the first dealer who said yes and didn't then try to get my closest one to match them as that would go beyond my comfort level of fairness.

I live in SF bay area, there are few dealer will do $1000 under invoice dose not matter which package (P, P+ or Prestige). The price does not matter I have trade in or not. Some sale manager does not like trade either.
I have a trade in so I went to the dealer that pay highest for my trade in. So I end up bought a P+ with some option (MSRP is $67230), I end up pay $69K out the door.

Here in Minnesota, as it was rightfully noted, the supply is comparably short vs. more populated areas, say the East Cost or SF. Thus dealers are not as cooperative on reducing prices as they might be elsewhere. I was not willing to fly/drive far and I was in a crunch to get myself a new set of wheels ASAP. So, I was/am happy with the deal.

@A5007:
Yes, my experience with the Audi Richfield was excellent. I worked with Jen Brown in Sales. She is a pleasure to work with. The guy who took care of financial/warranty issues was Don Grundman. Also, nothing but good to say about the guy. If you look at this new dealership's online ratings - they are below what Audi Minneapolis or Audi St. Paul exhibit, but I was very satisfied. Good luck to you!

My friend in CA once bought a BMW M5 from MA and paid to have it trucked to CA because the dealers in CA wanted $5000 more. But there is no great price disparity with Audi right now.

Funny that you've mentioned BMW... I had an eye on a nicely equipped X5 which I could get for a decently reduced price (~10-11% off MSRP). However, I've opted to go with the Q7 for its superior towing capacity and also the fact that it has towing kit factory installed. As you might know, that is not the case with X5 towing package - it is always dealer-installed (~1700). moreover, it looks ugly and that was a deal killer.
