I would check on date of manufacture as some early model 2012's (built in 2011) have the low tension piston rings that cause excessive oil consumption. If it was built in 2012, you should be OK. I have a 2012 2.0T and its been a flawless vehicle except for the oil consumption issue which Audi fixed for me.

I also have severe oil consumption at just under 80,000 miles. I am getting less than 500 miles per quart. Audi declined to provide any assistance. Also, there were significant changes in the MMI interface beginning with MY2013. For example, if you want to stream Bluetooth audio from your phone (either from files or online), you need a 2013 or newer Q5. Yes, there are 3rd party items that use the interface in the glove box, and I have one, but don't care for the way it works.
In general, I like my 2012 2.0T. However, if I had any idea of the oil consumption issue, or the MMI changes, I would not have gotten it.

Hi - thanks for the feedback!
i checked the history report and it was manufactured in Ingolstadt, Germany in 2011.
so i guess this has the issue?
how can i check if this is still an issue or not before buying it?

Are you buying private or from an Audi dealer ? Got to be careful with this. You can own it for 6 months or more before you detect the presence of the issue. And you could be on the hook.If buying from Audi then insist on having it written in your contract that, either the issue has been "fixed" by Audi or if not that they'll cover the repairs required for a decent number of miles/kms .Private - you're gamble.

I called Audi of America and gave them the VIN number and they told me that VIN is not associated with the oil consumption, it was the 2009,2010,2011 VIN numbers.
So even though the manufacture date may be in 2011, the particular VIN for the Q5 i gave is not impacted.
Have you you had issues even though your Q5 wasn't under the recall?

This is what Audi tells everyone since they have only included up to model year 2011 in the special "campaign" related to excessive oil consumption. The reality is that many 2012's (and I've even heard 2013's) have the excessive oil consumption issue depending on build date. If you are buying from a dealer, I would ask them to give you an extended warranty thaty would fix the oil consumption issue if it develops on the 2012 Q5. This usually doesn't start to show up until 65-70K miles.

I think some of the people talking about oil consumption on 2012/2013 models need to replace the PCV valve. My 2012 Q5 was burning a half quart per 5,000 miles before swapping it and now I'm not burning much at all. I would suggest swapping the $70 part before all the other suggestions I see on this forum. I have a great Audi/Porsche mechanic that said he has yet to see a 2012/2013 Q5 that the PCV valve didn't resolve the oil loss issue.
As far as the piston rings. This is repost from a response I recently posted in the Oil Consumption thread.
"I have come to the conclusion that it is very rare for a 2012 2.0T to have the excessive oil burn. The CAEB engine modifications (piston rings & timing chain tensioner) began to be implemented in mid 2011 and had been "fixed" as of mid 2012. Luckily our Q5 (engine date May 2012) had a revised chain tensioner so I am hoping that means we have the proper rings. Time will tell. "

I seriously doubt the PCV valve would cause me to burn a quart in less than 500 miles. Your consumption was no where near what mine was when I bought it a year ago, and now my last topoff was less than 400 miles. Yes, I do believe there are some 2012 models that still have the issue, regardless of what Audi says.
