Humming noise from rear with engine off

Humming noise from rear with engine off
Dear forum members,
I have a 2005 Audi A3 8PA quattro 2.0TFSI.
Yesterday morning the battery was completely dead, so today I jump started the car and went for a drive to charge the battery.
When I arrived back home, after switching off the engine and ignition, I heard a humming noise coming from the back, somewhere between the rear wheels (rear differential?). The noise doesn't stop and I'm afraid it is some component that is supposed to stop working after the engine is switched off, but keeps on going now, draining the battery.
Has anyone got an idea what this could be and how it could be fixed?

Update:
just got my car back from the garage yesterday. Apparently the fuel pump steering module was damaged, so the fuel pump kept running even though the car was switched off, draining the battery. The steering module was replaced, as well as the battery. EUR 475 bill (560 USD) Car runs fine again.
