Default Potential solution to the top view camera error

Just turn off the automatic setting in the Parking Aid options. This prevents your 360 graphic camera from coming on when you are parking forward, but this has kept my reverse camera set in camera mode on the right-hand side for two days. Further, it matches with what Audi said causes the error (which is what gave me the idea). You can always manually press the P Parking button on the console to turn the function on when parking forward, which I find less of a nuisance than resetting the camera every time.

Note: If you do this be careful not to rely on the forward camera coming on when trying to park. It won’t, and you’ll wreck your car.

I don't see any such setting. Could you please describe where this exists in the MMI menus?

Search for Parking aid in the vehicle settings section. It’s there.

According to the manual, go to Vehicle —> Driver Assistance —> Parking Aid (it’s the “activate automatically” toggle”)

But I found it from searching

I don't have that setting, 2018 S5 Sportback.

Yours looks different?

It doesn't look like you have the 360 view option. Yes, mine looks different.

I have a loaded Prestige -- certainly do have the option (and the annoying bug). This is strange. Hmmm, my engine wasn't on, but I don't think that should have a bearing on this.

Try it with the engine on. Might also want to drive it around the block or something. Sometimes some of my menu options don’t appear, so I have to try it a couple of times. This MMI system is ridiculously buggy (see my other post about the audio system control errors).
