Default Dip experience.

has anyone tried to dip their wheels/car? I知 thinking of dipping my front and rear rings plus perhaps the gas cover and the wheels. But I知 not sure how easy/hard it will be. The guys at dipmycar.com make it look pretty brainless, but real world mileage may vary, especially for noobs like myself. Just wanted to see if other folks had tried this and if so what their experiences were the first time.

i dipped my wheels before. pretty brainless really as long as you prep correctly. key is to always spray more than u need so its easier to rip off any excess or should u decide to rip it off completely in the future.

Yep pretty straightforward, and reiterating that as always 95% of such projects is Preparation!

I have my 18" gunmetal winter wheels dipped in 2 coats of bright aluminum (with 4 undercoats of grey) and dip coat protector on top of all that. I'm really happy with how it turned out. I did the wheels this summer while they were off the car.

As Huey said, it's all in the prep. AND patience. Light dust coats built up to avoid runs.

I'm going to dip my Black Optic TTRS wheels. They are the only part of the car I don't like.

Too cold this weekend in Houston to try.

Can you guys elaborate on the dipping process? Do you mean literally dipping the entire wheel in a large tub full of the product? Do you mean filling up the tub part way and letting the wheel down into the product so that just the outer surface gets dipped?

Thanks.

It’s actually a spray on plastic material. It’s very similar to the material that you would dip say tool handles in, and hence from whence the term originated.

So THAT'S how it's done! Thanks, again.

Yep, 50 degf is about the lower limit but far better when much warmer. Of course there's an upper limit as well.
