Default Remote Start for Q7 - 2018

Has anybody had success or a best way about installing a remote start for a new Q7? I live where it is cold and miss this feature from my old car. I'd prefer not to go the route of Viper and if possible would like to integrate into the key fob provided by audi. Any ideas?

That would be great to have.

I hate that I cannot let the car idle without being able to lock it.

My dealer (Madison Wis) did not have any options either and I will not go aftermarket either.

You can program the car and enable the option to lock the car when is idleing.

Will the dealer do that for me?

This is the way (not my original find), but I did it on my car and it works.

"This is the VCDS coding for Locking / Unlocking vehicle with Key FOB while the engine is running.

1. Module 46: Central Conv.
2. Coding: central_locking_sys_lock_unlock_at_eng_running
Byte 9/Check bit 7"

I do not know that the dealer will do it for you or not, but they can do it if they want to do it. They have the software, called ODIS, to do it.

Can also be done in OBD11 without the specific byte/bit. Search here for the OBD11 thread on how to purchase, use ,cost.

Audi will never provide OEM remote start. It is against their philosophy.

I have had Viper SmartStart in my Q7 for over a year now. Works great. It also provides the GPS functions that you lose when you don't resubscribe to the overpriced Audi Connect PRIME at a much cheaper per month cost. No extra key fob to carry if you get the app enabled version. In my view, integration to the Audi key fob would be almost worthless anyway, since you'd have to be so close to the car you may as well open it and start it manually.

There are a couple of threads in this forum section with great detail on the install, options, etc. Just search for "Viper". One key point is to only get it installed by a Viper "preferred" and "connected car" dealer. Definitely not Best Buy or other big box store.

After reading those threads, post back if you have any questions.

Look up Fortin on goolge. They have a module that allows you to use your OE Fob by pressing lock three times to start. There are a few videos around as well. I’d go for this setup for starting the car from inside the house and letting it warm up.

Just FYI, the Viper system also lets you start with three lock taps on the OEM fob. But again, you have to be within fob lock range, which is not that far.
