Default ACC system bug? Or user error?

I've got a 2017 Prestige and I've got a question about the Adaptive Cruise Control indicators that I cannot seem to resolve with the manual and my own research. The ACC/traffic jam assist itself seems to be working fine. The problem is that I cannot turn off the ACC indicators when the feature is not in use. The stalk is pushed back, which should turn off the ACC, and yet the red ACC symbol is constantly flashing red – in both the virtual cockpit and in the HUD. It's pretty annoying. Does anyone out there know the magic formula for turning this flashing red icon off (obviously without having to disable the ACC in vehicle settings)?

.

That is the distance warning. The interval is configurable and it can be disabled if you prefer.

+1... That's not ACC, that's part of PreSense. It's telling you that you are following too closely and to back off. If the car in front of you makes an emergency stop, you'll be most likely rear-ending them. Looks like Audi made the threshold adjustable on the B9. I think on my B8 is set to 1 second following distance.

My salesman guilted me into letting him configure it for 3 seconds at delivery. It was very annoying in morning commute traffic. I think I have it set to the minimum now.

Has anyone heard about the possibility (maybe via coding) to define the distance?, for example the minimum distance setting for the ACC. I hate the fact that the car brakes too often even at the shortest selected distance. When driving on the highway I have to get into the overtake lane too early.
If possible I would be just fine with a Cruise Control setting insteat of ACC of course with the possibility to change between them when wanted.
I hope I made myself understood.

So you have ACC set at "Distance 1" on the highway and you'd prefer to change lanes to pass even later?

ACC is programmed to maintain a safe following distance. The shortest following distance is 1 second. Anything closer and you are most likely rear ending somebody in an emergency. Keep in mind that the actual following distance depends on your speed. 1 second at 55 mph requires a bigger gap than 1 second at 25 mph. If you are approaching a slower car, then how soon or late it starts braking depends on your current Audi Drive Select mode. In 'comfort' mode it slows down sooner and more smoothly and in 'dynamic' mode it slows down later and more aggressively.

Yes. I would like to a shorter distance 1 setting. Is that possible to change somehow? by component coding? That is what I would like to know

Not that I'm aware of. Distance 1 is the shortest and I haven't come across anything that lets you shorten it. The only thing related to ACC coding I'm aware of is changing the default distance. For example I have mine set to default to distance 1 after starting the engine instead of 3.
