A5 Convertible Oil Burning and Piston Replacement
I am interested in buying a 2011 A5 Premium Prestige Quattro Convertible. The Car Fax history says that it started burning oil at 645K and "engine" removed and pistons replacedat65k miles.
Is this a problem with this Model year or should I pass on this car?

The car will go through oil much faster then any other car. It is one of its trademarks. I've never heard of pistons being replaced unless they were damaged, but this comes from something else breaking. I'd be cautious because traditionally the pistons should be fine, and if they were replaced what went wrong to cause that.

I had a '13 S5 cab, burned oil from day 1. The dealer did all the tests and recommended piston replacement. I had about 45k miles at the time and was adding 1 quart every 3-4k miles.. I had the pistons replaced under warranty, it took them about 2 weeks. I went at least 10k miles until the next oil change and didn't have to add any oil. The car was perfect after with ZERO issues.

Tony, this car is hopefully all fixed now and ready to cover a lot of good miles going forward. I don't know that I'd write it off.
