Default Installing hitch without tow prep package

So I've researched this exhaustively and it seems like I should have the towing prep package installed on my 2012 TDI but since it is a Euro spec version, it seems I don't have it because I have a pano roor and, while Qs with pano can have a hitch equipped at the factory, adding one after the fact is a no-no purportedly due to chassis flex associated with the roof panels.

Well, I've got an OEM porche cayenne hitch with all of the factory wiring waiting to install (needed longer bolts) and in the meantime I'm trying to sort out the wiring.

My question is : Can I get the hitch lights working without the factory tow prep package? I am just using the hitch to install a bike rack so i don't need the braking controller although it does seem like that part is required to get the lights working.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Braking Controller is not required for the lights, you need the towing module installed in the rear which outputs light signals to whatever your local RV plugs are (7-pin round in US) and the wiring harness that goes from that tow module to the hitch..

If your bike rack has lights this is what you'll need, here is the US Kit, you can see the wiring harness and the towing module: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...it/4l0092101c/

Thanks. That makes sense except that I have nothing to interface with on the vehicle. I have the hitch plus all of the wiring but there is nowhere to plug it in. Even if I have the right module, I still need to connect that to the vehicle first unless I missing something.

I may just try to rig up a standalone license plate light and skip the rest. The Q is big enough to where I might not even need the redundant lights. I think legally I do but not sure anyone would notice .

It goes under the floor on the right hand side, wiring is already there...

Your a braver man than I to modify any of the OEM wiring harnesses, if it dont plug in.. it dont go in.

Yeah, same here (usually). I've already looked there, no wiring . Need to figure something else out I guess. Wondering if there is an after market device that allows you to seamlessly connect to the factory wiring seamlessly. Doubtful but I'll keep looking..

I am in the same boat. I first bought a curt hitch but now I cant find the module and wires. I took Drealocks advise and returned it to amazon but not I am not sure where does the module and cables that come with the OEM hitch go on my car. I have a 2015 Q7 s-line prestige. Not even sure if it comes factory prep. I am handy with cars but kinda new to audi.

everyone's got factory prep and the OEM hitch can be added to any Q7 after the fact, the module installs in the back right hand side near the spare tire..

Thank you. I talked to the dealer, they say my car already has the factory prep but the want me to bring the car in on Monday to make sure and tell me exactly what I need to buy. I can do it myself and bring it to the to program it after. They’re been very helpful. I will post after. Cheers
