I recently got a 2017 A8L 4.0T (less than 6 months old) and have been absolutely loving it! Looking through Audi's US website, it looks like the 2018 model (still D4) has been upgraded with 4G LTE connectivity (vs the 3G in mine). I happen to use WiFi extensively for streaming German/Swiss radio stations, so the increased speed would be most welcome. Since these two vehicles are similar, I'm wondering if anyone here knows of the possibility of swapping data modules/units with the one in the 2018 model and whether it would be an easy or supported mod?

Its times like these i wish the A8 was more widespread to allow research into specific solutions like the above. I doubt anyone has looked into this or how to swap particular pieces of the MMI for ours cars.

Indeed. Typically, I'm thrilled to be the unique A8L on the road, in a sea of bland S550's and 740i's (usually all in black), but when there is an issue or modding idea - there isn't much of a local (or even domestic) community to research or tinker.

I just sent off an e-mail to Audi of America... Will post an update if/when I hear back.

I'm guessing that's a mistake on the website. The current A8 platform is end of life. It got its technology refresh in 2012/13 like all other models of the same generation and still has the MMI 3G+. I would be very surprised if Audi had upgraded the MMI for the last model year. I think the website guys got ahead of themselves. Looking at the plans here https://www.audiusa.com/technology/i...e/audi-connect, the A8 is not listed for the new Connect CARE/PRIME/PLUS plans.

That's doubly disappointing... So they went through the trouble of upgrading the European models to 4G LTE, while completely neglecting the US lineup. I love the car, regardless - the corporate politics and the ensuing decision making, however, do amaze me.

The European 2018 A8 is the D5, which has an all-new MMI system. The US is always about a MY behind. I'm guessing they accidentally put the D5 text on the US website.

Confirmed by AoA - the '18 A8L has the same 3G modules. They did, however, go as far as to suggest I check with the dealer when the 2019's come out to see whether a data module upgrade would be available - LOL - somehow, I find that hard to believe.
