Actually...
To my mind the "older" one is the better one in many cases for Audi enthusiasts buying used, if you can find it at the right price. The newer one is limited to three VIN's, while older one was unlimited. Since I go through a variety of Audis over time, I prefer unlimited license. A used cable was often priced for about 80%+ of new, but it could be the older unlimited type have dropped in price since the 3 VIN one had price cut to $199.
The truly older ones don't say CAN in the name; those won't work on Audis after the D2/C5 type era. FWIW, in plain English the "discontinued one" continues to work on both my 2013 Q5 and 2015 D4 S8, and always worked on both my 2006 D3 A8 W12 and 2000 A6 4.2. Read my old 1996 A6 2.8 when it was still on road too. There is yet another generational change transitioning in, presumably to be found on D5.

I notice that that clearance advt for Hex Can cable like I have states that it does not work on current 2017+ Q7s. I did not know that. And yes I have used mine to scan far more than the 10 ( or 3) VINs allowed by the new enthusiast cable.
