TPMS new battery experiments ANYONE?
Has anyone experimented with replacing the batteries in the TPMS sensors?
I have a dead battery in one sensor, and probably soon in all 4. Thinkin about experimenting with just swapping batteries.
Dead end or any hope?
Pictures?

Hi volvopentaman, I thought you sold your Audi.
The TPMS wheel sensors are sealed and are not serviceable. Their batteries have a lifetime of several years and are not replaceable, so the sensors must be replaced.
Even if you manage to open them and get to the battery, you will have a hard time re-sealing them afterwards.

I think someone actually tried to dissect them once and it got nowhere. OES was Beru, now (sold to) Huf, if you want to pay up for those. Otherwise there are various plug compatible aftermarket ones, some for a lot less money. I used Hufs last round, which I found being sold new on eBay. Get the correct frequency ones--Euro ones are typically the "other" frequency relative to the ones used on USA build D3's.
The stem is its own component on those, which can be found for pretty cheap as jobber parts. Those help make everything look fresh again if your wheels otherwise look good cosmetically.

I tried to Dremmel the battery out of one, but it was potted so well that I could not free it without damaging the board during the process.

Can be done. Not worth doing.
I was, with great effort and careful use of a Dremel tool, able to isolate remove and replace the battery in an Audi TPMS sensor. The battery was very unusual, some sort of OEM lithium cell and not at all like the commonly available coin batteries. I was unable to find an exact replacement. Replaced it with a pricey VARTA Li cell of only roughly comparable dimensions. I used Splash Zone Epoxy and put it all back together. It looked sloppy but DID work. Why is this a waste of time? Because now 100% compatible preprogrammed generic TPMS sensors are available for $21 postpaid on eBay.
