Default 2007 Q7 display black out

HI Guys hope you can help!

I have a 2007 Q7 3.0TDi, everything has been fine with it. Then out of the blue the digital display in-between the tacho and speedo has gone blank.
At first I thought I might have pressed a button by mistake switching it off.

It seems to switch on and off whenever it wants! Anyone experienced this, if so, how did they rectify the problem?

Thanks in advance.
Eddie

It could be just the instrument cluster's display backlight. Try with a pointed flashlight to note if there is a symbol/text or some picture while you are thinking that it's switched off.

Thanks for replying Vaslaz, I'll give that a try.
I did try adjusting the cluster backlight, that just alters the tacho and speedo back lights.
It seems like a loose electrical connection, display comes on and off itself. However I have noticed that the brightness of the display isn't as bright as it's been.

I think that the LCD is with CCFL backlight. The fact that it's not as bright as it was - could lead you to the problem with the high voltage transformer or fault CCFL bulb...

Mine does it every morning when first started for about 10 mims then goes ok once car warmed up - stays off then keeps going off ( blacks out ) and on intermittently. Its getting back quicker when weather is warmer and completeley ok when weather very warm in summer mornings. Obviously colder weather affecting it, but should not be normal thing to happen. Did anyone else experienced it and what was solution for problem ?

It could very well be temperature related, but I don't know that it is an issue with the LCD itself just not liking the cold (I've had mine in temps as low as -50F, and it displays fine, if not somewhat slow to change). However, if there is a bad connection, the metal and plastics involved will expand and contract as the temperatures change, so colder temperatures will certainly tend to highlight such issues.

Thanks,

Will try removing and checking connection next week. Just thought its odd that it only does when its cold-ish. Anywhere below 10 C i think and it doesnt get colder than -4 C in England, UK
