D4 v D5?
So my lease is up in about 6 months and I am soon to be out of warranty and soon to be over on mileage. The car is a D4 and it's been wonderful since I've had it. I guess the question is should I push them to get me out of this car early and into another D4 at a killer deal or suck it up and wait for the D5? Just curious what you guys think

Key words are your D4 has been "wonderful" since you had it, and potential for a "killer lease". See what kind of lease number you can get so the deal gets into focus. It seems likely that the D5 will not be available when your lease ends, so you can play the migration to another brand card with the dealer, so the dealer risks getting nothing. Mike

Agreed w/ preceding response.
Also consider drivetrain you want. If a 3.0T type set up, could wait for D5. Though...Audi USA and AG can't seem to get out of their own way to get D5 here in general. Perfection (in Audi's mind) is the enemy of the merely really good. I have little confidence about when it will show up. On the other hand, if you want a 4.0T (or S8), perhaps take the D4 offramp now. That is, they haven't even announced it for Europe in the D5. It could be they try the typical BMW tactic of skim the market with the lower potential one first, but not Audi's norm. It isn't hard to see what the motor is--just look at the current Panamera. V8 responsibility shifted to Porsche, along with the tooling. But unclear where that phase in stands for Audi for future models. With both D4 at end of life and C7 at just announced end of life (as in S7, RS7, S6), they need to get to an answer. There is a more tuned V6 for RS4, RS5 and maybe R8 use, but I doubt that will be is for the bigger Audis, and doesn't meet the German competition anyway.

I got to see the D5 at a trade show. The Audi rep took me through the car. It basically feels the same inside with addition of mega screens everywhere. The massage seats are better. I must admit I took the time to see the car to get the massage during the trade show. The materials felt the same with some added touches to the trim that added to a nicer design and aesthetic. Same leather feel though. I think the new vents for the AC are too Jaguar XF like and will be just as annoying as the screen having to come out of the dash when the car starts. The center console is the same layout as well, which is better than the A6 and other cars. The outside did look nice, very contemporary, but still looks like a big A4.
I think that waiting for the D5 would be worth it as it gets you to the latest tech in the cars as well as the updated look. Assuming you will get a 3 year lease, The D4 is cutting edge 2012, 6 years old stuff will be 9 year old stuff when you turn it in. While I think the Audi MMI platform still works better than other brands of cars I have rented (Dodge seems to be the worst system for integrating with a phone and just using the blasted thing), it would be nice to have a newer platform that has Apple or Andriod Car play for better integration. Plus you have the newest thing on the block, all the reason to buy flagships anyways.

If you did a 2 or 3 year lease on a new D4 that would get you out past the initial beta versions coming out in 2019 with the hope that major bugs are worked out in the '20 or '21 model.
As I've posted here before, I'm very itchy to get out of my '15 3.0 but I think I may hold out for the new C8 S6 when it arrives hopefully as a 2020 model. I've thought about a stop gap maneuver as well with a lease on something else but with only 27,000 miles, I think the best move is to keep what I have. The D5 is of little interest to me due to the only the LWB being offered in the US.
Looking forward to seeing these cars in person in New York this week!
