Default Is this year a good one to get an A3?

Hi everyone...been seriously considering a new A3. I understand the refresh was done in 2017. Are there likely to be any major changes over the next few years? Based on Audi design history, when would a significant makeover be expected? I don't want to buy one in 2018 only to find out that the 2019 has undergone a makeover.

Thanks for your help!

Probably as good as any with respect to the design and overall satisfaction among owners as far as I know. I have not heard of any expected major changes in the next couple of years. As you alluded to, they just underwent a face lift in 2017. On the other hand, ask yourself what your options would be if you didn't get an A3? Personally, if you like it, why not go for it assuming it checks all the boxes on your want list? I wouldn't worry about any major design makeover.

I think 2014 was the year to get an A3.
It's impossible the way I made my 2015 A3 Quattro Premium Plus build back then using today's options and the starting price gone up $2,300.

I would recommend waiting on A3 till the next generation comes, which will likely have the tuned up 252hp 2.0T engine, plus a possible new fast back look like the A5/A7.

Yes but these newer A3s wouldn't likely hit our market until 2020 probably at the earliest. It goes back to my original question to the thread starter, what options do you have? You can more or less say this about any make and model of car. Depends on how long he intends to keep the vehicle. Is he leasing v buying? Does he want to wait 2 more years to buy an A3? Those are the key questions IMO.

New A3 will be released for sale in Europe 2109.....Early 2020 for North America with S3 to follow later in that year. In your shoes I would wait but there will be no sizeable discounts on the first year of introduction. You should get a good deal on a 2018 though, especially after a firm introduction date from Audi.

also, I usually have a rule about german cars, don't buy the first model year, unless the model has had 1 to 2 years in Europe first.

I agree with Timmay on his first response, but to be safe, I'd go with the oldest model year (face lift models accepted, they usually have the same/similar mechanicals) - so yes, go with 17 or 18 IMO.
