Default 2015 SQ5 Bass Upgrade - JLAudio 10TW3 in spare compartment

Sub in spare tire was not cutting it. Looked at some different options for subs - decided on a DIY box using a JL Audio 10TW3-D8 with a JL JX500/1D amp. Was shooting for 1026cubic inches, but probably ended up with around 850 in the box. Pulled signal from the sub output. Turned the tire over so it could be pushed all the way to the top left of the spare compartment. Pulled remote turn-in from the cigarette lighter. Final product came out great - incredible low-end.

End game: 10" sub and keep the spare tire.

Glued. Sealed.

couldn't have been any closer....

54cubic inches under the amp!

4ga battery quick-disconnect.

Parallel - 4ohm.

Final product.

Finished!

Aftermath.

Nice job on the box. Do you have the b&o system in your car? I'm looking at some of the all in one systems and trying to decide if I should get something less expensive such as Rockford Fosgate, or spend a little more and get JL. I dont want to rattle the neighborhood, just some nice clean filler bass that b&o is lacking. I was wondering if you have the b&o and if so how does your system sound? People are saying it messes with the eq curve when you start to turn it up which is why so many put a bass **** in the cabin.

Yes - I have the B&O, there is only a bass & treble adjustment as well as the surround level. No separate adjustment for the subwoofer. I'll likely try the remote bass **** for the amp at some point. The highs on the B&O are very crisp and clear, it just needed some decent low-end.

Did you use a line out converter or did you just put the factory sub wires into the amp?

I used the high level input on the amp - wired in parallel to the sub wires: white/yellow+, blue/yellow-

You should sell the assembly. There are plenty of Q5 owners looking for an easy turnkey bass upgrade.

Nice professional work done!

Could you make a list of the components used (other than the custom bass enclosure)?

The B&O sub is truly worthless. Nice upgrade but, be carefull as it won't stop there.

If only I didn't value my storage space for my hitch and other components so much! I really like having that storage area. Wish we could just plug and play swap the B&O sub in the spare tire.
