MPG seems low for my car
Hi all,
I have 2018 3.0T about 3700 miles now. I always hear others' mpg like 19 mpg in city and 22 mpg in highway.
But I only get 15-16 mpg in city and 19-20 mpg on highway. I usually drive in auto mode.
The traffic in my town is not so bad, so I don't know why my mpg seems much lower than others.
Just want to know if anyone get the same mpg as mine ?
Or should I take it back to dealer to check anything? Thanks.

My average in the first 7000 miles has been 18.8 mpg. That's primarily city, with about 2600 miles worth of long distance driving as well. My best mileage has been 22.7 mpg on one leg of a 650-mile trip. My last tank, with almost all city miles, was 17.6 mpg.

Where are you located? If you are in the snow belt areas, the sh*tty winter fuel will lose you 10% mileage. I noticed last weekends fill up has the summer blend and mileage has increased substantially since the previous week (under the same commute).

Yes where are you located? Iirc EU cars have eco mode and NA have eco mode in auto. I normally get 17 to 18 mpg around town. Every now and again I get 19 to 20, like today. In comparison the lady's mdx struggle to 18 in mixed driving.

Yes, I reset computer whenever I start a longer trip or new tank of fuel. So I calculate how much I fuel and how long I ran.
Maybe the car is still new. I hope mpg could be better in the near future.

I took a drive from the suburbs to Champaign. One day round trip, about 270 miles of highway driving and got about 22 or 23. And I was cruise controlling it but around 75-80mph.
Just for reference.

In the beginning I used to see between 17 to 20 in city driving, now I avg around 18. On the highway I avg 23-24 and have seen 26 during a 500 mile road trip.. And these numbers are with the trans in sport mode 95% of the time, only time I'm in "D" is in heavy traffic..
I don't like the way the Q feels in "D", IMO it feels too sluggish.. In sport it feels like you're driving a totally different vehicle, I'm sure I could get better numbers if I drove a little less "spirited"..

I've noticed mileage is terrible if you take short trips (< 10 min.)
Also terrible if you're stop/go a lot.
If you accelerate hard and brake at the last minute you will go through more fuel (not to mention brakes and tires) than an average person.
In fact I'd say the following will all drag your fuel economy down (you can check off how many match):
1. new car (first tank or 2) seems to be a bit worse, I think there's a small break in period plus in my case I sat there and idled a lot playing with MMI settings etc..
2. winter gas blends (its true as another poster mentioned I they just switched in my area because I've gotten better fuel economy last tank or 2)
3. winter conditions (any slippage in slush/ice will hurt your fuel economy)
4. sub-optimal tires (pressure but also similar to winter conditions)
5. short trips, if the car doesn't warm up (this might be a function of not really having time to cruise as well)
6. frequent stop/go/idle
7. erratic driving style (heavy foot gas/brake, not much coasting)
8. use of sport mode
