Fridge
Has anyone tried installing a fridge behind the rear armrest? The oem model is a bit costly, but there has to be a way to hook up another fridge. I'm happy to customize something but before I do I thought I'd check here first before trying to reinvent the wheel.

I'm unsure what this is, but the fridge itself is in the neighborhood of $1500. That's a bit steep for a novelty. I'm sure I can install a nice cooler but that won't work as well.

here's the info you need...
Be certain to get the mounting hardware from the man. If it has been lost I can send you pics and you can fabricate the pieces. Its a very simple mounting system....a bolt goes through a plastic block, the block bolts to the front of the fridge and extends wider than the fridge so that it overlaps the bulkhead on the cabin side. There are several of those blocks and you simply tighten the bolts until the front of the fridge is snugged up to the bulkhead on the trunk side.
Audi wires the fridge to only be able to be operated when the ignition is on.....that makes the fridge to be useless in reality. If you are on a trip and stop to do something for a couple hours you could have the contents of the fridge get warmer than would be safe, depending on what food items you packed; What one needs is for the fridge to keep running when the car is turned off....that system will run on a 3 amp fuse even though Audi uses a 10 amp, so it has VERY little current draw. T that rate you can run the fridge for HOURS (and I have) from the battery with no worry of depleting the battery to a no-start level. I wired the fridge in my 4.2 to a 12V unswitched source, and I changed the wiring in my W12 A8 in the same way.
Let me know if you need any more info. I also have the fridge operating manual if you want a copy.

Thanks, awdinut! Honestly, I had at one point looked into it casually but never figured out how it would go. I decided I would never use it and that the ski pass through would at least have a chance at being used. I can only see the fridge being used on a road trip to save me the trouble of buying gas station beverages, instead stowing some from my fridge at home in there. Now, if I were to do a mod, I like the window switch mod and I would like the dual paned glass. That I could more regularly appreciate.
