Default Swapping 01 early vin hubs/axles to newer style?

First post here, but I’ve done a lot of searching. I’ve been slowly putting back together my 01 180hp Quattro but I’ve hit an impass.

My 01 is an early vin pre 046000. For the life of me I cannot find the correct front wheel hubs that aren’t OEM. My axles take a nut and I know the newer style takes the bolt. Like a dummy and before I knew better, I already ordered the wrong hubs, had them pressed in and now my car is sitting on jack stack stands.

My question is if I can’t find a viable cheaper alternative solution to the correct early vin hubs, could I simply use the newer style axleswith the axle bolt? Would be cheaper that way and I’d get new axles. Does it matter between 5spd and 6spd Quattro for the axlesto bolt up to the trans? I’ve also seen options on with or without 18” wheels? I’ve been running over part numbers and searching for the last few days and it seems like it will work. Just really haven’t found anyone who’s really done it and would hate to order the stuff and still be sittings.

Thanks!
