Crack in differential?
So, I make an appointment at the dealer to resolve that noted "whirly" sound, Coincidentally I was noticing a rough scraping sound/feeling on the floor of the car. I was thinking bad wheel bearing, but turns out there is a crack in the differential. Huh? I drive fairly conservatively. What would cause that? Also, does this affect a Car Fax rating on resale?
On a side note, the dealer gave me a 2018 Q5 - I haven't driven an SUV in a couple of years - 20014 Q5/2016 Macan and going from a low riding A4/A4 Allroad to the Q5 is a totally different ride. I'm enjoying the change - at least until next week when that part comes in.

I had a similar failure on my first allroad. It wasn't cracked though. The gears internally Grenaded causing me to be stranded.
At least your dealer is taking care of it for you. I don't think this would affect resale

Usually if a diff is cracked either an outside object caused the damage or a defect in the diff. Sometimes it's a bad diff bearing that cracks the diff casing from thermal expansion. Won't know for sure until the diff is removed and inspected.

Still waiting on that rear diff to come in from Germany. Meanwhile the loaner Q5 is a pleasant change.
