Default 6500 miles, add oil message

I didn't think I'd see this so fast, is this normal?
It startled me when it beeped suddenly on highway today, I would expect more advance warning, because the gauge shows near empty, unless it means nothing and there is still enough oil in there. There is no dipstick on Q7, right? I am only asking because I added only half quart, and now the gauge is showing MAX and before it was showing MIN.

I have 9300 mi on my 2018 and will go in for my first maintenance in about 4 weeks. It has used some oil, but hasn't reached the 1 qt mark yet.

The engine hold over 7 qts of oil (check the owners manual). The MMI display shows just 1 quart, not the full 7+ quarts. When it hits the 1 quart low level it displays the warning message. There is still over 6 quarts in the engine, unless it is on your garage floor. Just add a little bit and be happy. If mine hits the 1 quart low level I am going to wait for the 10k service to add. Otherwise just throwing money away. But for you at 6500 mi, I would add some oil.

Thanks, grabbed some 5W-30 Castrol Edge (I remember seeing Edge as recommended somewhere, under the hood? manual? don't remember) and added half quart to be safe. If it goes down again, will add the rest.
I knew Audi's gobbled oil, just didn't know it would be this quick, I never had this with any of my previous cars (German or Domestic)

Mine is at 9800 miles.. less than one gas tank away from the 10k service. I have not received any "low oil" warnings since picking up the car on 12/26/2017. (I would have added two quarts into my old Q5 by now).
Regarding the Dipstick... no, the oil level is monitored electronically (just like a gas gauge). If it is at the bottom on the electronic gauge, it is the same as being at the bottom of your dipstick. Old Q5 actually had an oil gauge failure about a week after I purchased it used. Car popped up a warning that oil sensor was bad, and needed replaced. I took it back to the dealer, and they fixed it.

FWIW I have never had to add oil between the one-year service in any of the vehicles listed in my signature. I bought 2 bottles of Castrol back in 2010; still have them, unopened.

I got my oil warning right about that mileage Hayde (and just short of 1 year or driving). Added a quart and moved on. Many have needed it, so its ok

Great, thanks for the replies, I knew all that burning engine smell was all in my head. I was on highway 70mph thinking "the engine will drop any second". LOL.

Does unopened oil go bad?

Using .75-1 qt. between 10k changes isn't uncommon at all and not an issue.

How often do you guys check your oil? I look at mine weekly on Audi Connect.
