Default Weird SPAM? "You should have been careful..."

Has anybody else gotten a weird SPAM entitled "You should have been careful..."

This SPAM suggested that I had clicked on a **** site and wanted me to send some money...

Um, no.

The weird thing is that this SPAM was sent to the email address I created and used only for correspondence with VW regarding my Touareg buyback...

I think that somewhere along the line, that process was compromised. There's no other way anyone could have gotten this particular email address..

I'll be checking with VW shortly...but it would be helpful to know if others have gotten similar SPAM...

If you've gotten a similar SPAM, call the Dieselgate hotline and let them know!

Default when you send out your first mail rom a new mail set-up..

It is typically compromised from that point on. All it takes is for one recipient to have his or her mail infected with an address harvester and the rest is history. If the mail you sent was forwarded to anyone anywhere or even in the original receiver its toast, you might let them know about this so they can check their mail system. I use proton mail as it is encrypted, and as such is semi immune to these types of threats....but nothing is impervious to it.

Interestingly, I never sent mail using this particular address, just created it to receive correspondence regarding the BuyBack process. Somewhere along the information capture line, either via someone hacking into the VW Court Settlement System, the third party application used to confirm the vehicle return process, or through the bank transfer process, that address was harvested. I have not used it anywhere else, and it is quite specific to the situation.

I sent a LinkedIn message to the VWoA CISO. I'll see if I hear back... I work for a supplier and partner, so maybe she'll respond.

Super weird, I have had several occasions of a Windows pop up, shutting down access to my entire pc, with a robotic woman’s voice claiming the federal government Locked it down due to pornographic activity? Which I do not access!
I can fix it, killing it completely with the power button and then restarting it and running malware program, then I’m good for a long while.
In fact, it just happened 2 days ago.
Strange thin is, This only happens while accessing Audi World forums and only with Firefox browser, at least that is the browser I use for this site.
It is tiring and I would love to find the culprit!
