Now the A4, A5, (upcoming A6/A7), Q5, Q7, and R8 use that shift pattern. One click up from R, one down for D and press P for park. It takes about one drive to get used to.

Have an new A4 loaner now while S8 is in for its final 4/50 warranty punchiest. I regard this new fangled shifter shifter bluntly as a piece of crap and quite unsafe. Way too easy out of habit to end up in reverse when using the identical movement in 99% of vehicles out there. All my Audi's included find Park there. Have already done it several times, over several days. Predicable there will be confusion as well for anyone who drives multiple vehicles.

Audi should know better frankly from its 5000 debacle with AT's and various controls placement issues that almost killed the company in the USA.

If you shut the car off while in any gear, it goes into Park. Just takes a few drives until it's a reaction.

As MP4.2+6.0 pointed out, if you drive multiple vehicles, as I do nearly every day, it can be quite annoying if not downright dangerous.
I already fumble with wipers:
On which stalk, up or down, twist on or off........

This, I can't remember the last time I physically put my car (Audi) into Park.

I think you will get used to it but as others pointed out when you drive other cars it's a PITA. I always screw it up when I drive my wife's Q7. Bottom line is that it's counter intuitive.

As others have said, it is a little bit of an annoyance when other cars you drive are different. And I agree.

But, to me the difference in wipers and cruise control are far more an issue/annoyance.

The PDK in the Porsche has you push the lever forward to go up a gear. BMW is pull back to go up a gear. While modern electronics won't allow you to select a gear too low, it is concerning at it's limits in corners. So I just use the paddles.

But.... the paddles on the Porsche move with the steering wheel and the paddles on the Ferrari are fixed at 3 and 9.

I know, the problems us car guys have to deal with. How do we go on with life.....
