Like how often do you fill it up where it wouldn't be possible in the coupe?

I’ve always had hatched until my last car. It was a 14’ Passat which has a massive trunk. Problem was the opening was too small to fit many larger items through. They would all fit in the space but just not through the opening. This was frustrating. With the S5 SB the cargo area may be smaller but it’s more accessible.

Loaded it up, rear seats down, and went to the beach for a week. I doubt I could have done that with the coupe, but It will probably only get that full a couple of times a year. I bought it for the same reasons as RedKloud & NJSRT.

This - and I think the S5 SB actually looks better than the S5 coupe too... and, as mentioned by Chiefan11, you can carry a bike without removing the front wheel!

My last car was a B8 S4. The trunk volume was pretty close to that of the S5 SB but it wasn't as easy to access. My hockey bag full of gear was always just a hair to tall and deep to load it in the trunk without having to jam it in a little bit. With the SB it couldn't be any easier to load awkward or bulky items. Also it's much easier to reach those spots right next to the seatbacks, not to mention easier to clean the inside of the rear window.
Only downside that I've come across so far is that it's not always obvious what the max loading height is. You could easily overpack a few bags only to find that the hatch won't close all the way. That was almost impossible with a normal trunk lid.

Bikes, lots of camping stuff, giant portable air conditioner, multiple snowboards, Christmas tree have all been in the trunk. Coming from a Lexus IS350 with a useless ski pass I'm in heaven! I'm 6 foot tall and while it would not be stellar...I could actually sleep back there in a pinch if a camping under the stars trip went bad due to weather.

My SB did 10 weekends at the mountains last year, 3 adults and up to 5 sets of skis with all of our gear, clothes and beer. Only the left 40% side of the seats down.
It's a beast!
