Default 2019 Wireless charging

Anyone have input on if we would be able to retrofit the wireless charging from the 2019's into the 2017 or 2018 Q7s?

Not all phones will fit, and you still must plug your phone for Carplay. I'll pass.

Why wouldn't you be able to simply use Bluetooth? Plugging into Car Play wouldn't be WIRELESS charging.

There's a lot of work that has to be done in order to retrofit it. It's not simply plug and play

We have two cars with Car Play/Android Auto and I believe both of them require the phone to be plugged in in order to work. I haven't tried digging around to do it all wirelessly but I feel like being able to use the steering wheel controls and getting information on the MMI/COMAND screen would require a physical connection.

Plus, I think a phone will charge faster when connected to the USB since wireless charging is typically slower than wired, even if Fast Charge is enabled.

I wouldn't give up the Android Auto's convenience, so even with wireless charging we would still need to plug in.
There is wireless android auto on the way but we probably won't see it until 2020 MY vehicles.

i would assume building out the whole antenna system would be required if you wanted that. I’m not really worried as we don’t have the thicker acoustic glass from my understanding. I keep my phone there when I drive anyway so just adding the charging portion shouldn’t be that crazy.

As someone mentioned earlier wireless charging is not meant for short charging periods that you would have in a vehicle. It is best suited for overnight.

I think that BMW offers wireless CarPlay, but there’s a subscription fee from what I’ve been told.
