I have a 2016 A6 and will be installing a Carplay system I am buying from Unique Auto Developments. I get all the necessary harnesses to plug into the existing MMI. It comes with a USB port that I have to install. The USB they provide also charges the phone.

Is there a way I can simply tap into the existing USB ports that are in my center console? I really don't desire to have to add a 3rd USB dedicated to this unit. In order to do a clean job, I have to cut the center console compartment and install the supplied USB port.
I found the part number for the Audi USB interface, which is part number 4G0035736. If I can find an interface cable or something that will allow me to do a simple plug-and-play, that would be awesome!

Any suggestions?

USB wires (2.0 ones) only have 4 wires, ground, +, and 2 signal. It is not too difficult to simply cut the wire and solder on new ones, tape and go.

Probably not difficult, but I wouldn't know where in the harness to do this. I don't have a wiring diagram that shows the exact wires of the USB, and which wires I need to tap into.

IF you can find the harness USB wiring/pinout all follows the same protocol and should not be difficult to find if your up to the task. Good Luck!

Im really interested in how your retrofit works and how the install went! I need Carplay and Waze! Do you have a link to the installation video, not the demo. How did you know which version to yet, MMI Plus vs. RMC?

My girlfriend is buying it for me for Christmas. I asked a lot of questions beforehand. Laura at the company was quick to reply. You can email her at info@unique-ad.co.uk .

There are others out there that make a similar unit, but when emailing them I pretty much never got a reply. Unique Auto was pretty good at getting back to me, usually right away or within a day. She sent me an install video, but requested I not share it with anyone. It's meant for people that purchased the unit. I'm sure she'll send it to you as well, if you ask for it and are serious about purchasing it from them.
