Arnott or not?
I am not sure yet but I could be looking at replacing some of the air struts.
My question is if I should have mine rebuild by Arnott or buy new Arnott struts or pay a fortune for the originals. One of you here said that the Arnott's lack adaptive dampenjng.
Is that a must?
Thanks

I have the Anott rebuild struts since I can get them warrantied though my parts vendor. I would personally not get the new ones because of the lack of adaptive dampening. The whole purpose of our system is the ability pick from comfort to dynamic, depending on how you want to drive. If you take way the adaptive dampening, you might as well go with conventional coil-over system in my opinion.

It varies. Some fail relatively quickly, others last for a lot of years. I think they still offer a pretty good warranty. I rebuilt my own strut quite simply, needing $115 for the kit and $35 for miscellaneous parts and tools, and 2 months later it holds up just fine. Only added about 30 minutes to a traditional strut replacement, your shop may consider doing that for you, but it depends on him doing it properly. It isn't hard to do right, not at all, but I could see someone being careless messing something up.

I just replaced two of the "rebuilt" Arnott struts in my S8...
They were installed not quite 3 years ago and have only added 17,000 miles since they were installed. The front passenger side failed. I purchased the "new" Arnott struts to replace them instead of the "rebuilt".

The dealer here wants to charge me $3500 per strut.About $2600 US dollars.
I found plenty of struts for about $1600 US.(OEM)
I'm not even sure yet what the problem is until next week.In any event a new strut might be better if fit lasts as long as the original.A lot more money upfront though.
