MMI SD slot technical limitations- 2016 Q5
Can the SD slots use NTFS file format? or just FAT32
what is the largest SD card that is accepted. I have a 32GB card now?
can I got 256GB with NTFS or ExFAT

No NTFS.
I think both exFAT and FAT32 although how they are both treated may vary.
SD cards only accept 2GB.
SDHD accept up to 32GB, your MMI will accept those.
SDXC accept up to 2TB, but I've seen posts saying there is either a 32GB or 64GB limit even on the MMI players, you'd have to check because you CAN use a larger card--the system will simply not see any files that are beyond the car's limit. (I.e. Put in a 256GB card, it will be accepted, but only the first 32GB may actually be read and seen.)
Whatever the card size limit is, you can put in USB devices apparently without limit, if you put a USB adapter in the glove box's AMI/MMI socket.

Murray-
When I had my 2nd PC, I think I paid $5000 for a 10GB hard drive, and that was on sale at 50% off. On the 3rd PC, an IBM/AT, I pushed the memory by adding an extra memory card and folks asked what could you ever possibly need 4MB of memory for?! (And that was all for business, they were investments that paid off.)
I've learned that it never ends. My primary music library pushes a paltry 128GB in high quality MP3 format, but that same library goes to something like 500-600gb in a debatedly better FLAC format. (Which of course, our crude entertainment systems can't read anyway.)
Now, if I wanted to keep life simple and just take "everything"....Yeah, I'd need over a terabyte in the car too. As long as better storage keeps coming out faster than I need to fill it up, I'm OK with that.
But when Audi sells a car (like our 2014's) where the media systems are, literally, more than six years obsolete by industry standards....Ain't gonna sell me an MMI system that way.
