Default Using 275/45/20 instead of 285/45/20

17k miles and they are already shot. The smaller 275 seems to offer more options at a lower price and higher thread.

Anyone using 275 instead of 285?

Running those for our winter tire size. No issues.

I’d never go with a smaller diameter tire. Less between you and the road and chances are it won’t look good. Id go larger if they fit.

I was contemplating of the same thing in the 21" size. There is a variety of all season tires to choose from with similar load rating, longer tread wear, and much lower cost. The downside is the 1-2% error in speedometer reading.

The 275s are only 1.18% smaller in circumference than the 285s. Anything within 3% is normally considered acceptable, and I prefer within 2%. No issue at all.

would there be any speedo errors or issues with going with a wider tire?

I have never bought rims or different size tires before for my rides so I’m not familiar with what is a acceptable tire spec.

At 65 mph, the speedo will show 64.23 mph. There I’ll be no error on the speedo, or any other errors from the car.

Audi speedometers tend to show faster than the car is going so maybe that’s a plus.

Can I use a 275 or 295 tire on the stock 285/45/20 rim?
