Shortcut to CarPlay / Android Auto

Shortcut to CarPlay / Android Auto
Has anyone figured out a hardware shortcut to CarPlay? It sure seems like the customizable "*" button on the steering wheel should have this, but I don't see that option. It's supremely annoying that I have a hardware switch to "Media" and to "Radio" but no way to get to CarPlay other than Menu/Spin Wheel/Click.

nothing. I end up using the "back" button a bunch of times, then rotate the big dial a lot so it goes all the way to the bottom, then up one to carplay. Not very convenient but I don't need to look to get it done.

You can't assign one of those number buttons to it? What can you assign to them?

On my B8.5 RS5, I didn't even bother saving any station favorites as I realized I pretty much only listen to one station and don't change it. It would have been great to be able to assign other things to those buttons...

Couldn't agree more on this one, it's ridiculous that we can't program those buttons for anything other than radio/sat.
My 2008 335xi could program any of the buttons for just about anything: call wife, nav to work/home, anything that I was currently on via the screen, I could hold a present button for and it would save it.
I can understand not being able to program to do specific things inside of Android auto / Car Play, but at least let us switch to Android auto.
It must be an intellectual property / copyright thing. Can't think of any reason why 10 years later a superior car doesn't have this functionality.
