Default Closing Tailgate With Keyfob

Hey Guys!

Are you able to close the tailgate with your keyfob on the 2018 Q5 PP?

Thanks!

Yes, you need to be standing behind the tailgate and within about 3 feet of the car. Pressing and holding the trunk button on the key fob will close it.

That's interesting. After reading your response, I went out to try mine again. I opened it with the fob. When I got very close and both clicked and held down the fob I could hear clicking in the hatch, but it did not close. Had to use the hatch button to close it.

It works on every Q5. You either aren't behind the car, aren't close enough, or aren't holding the button on the key fob long enough. If you have a 2019 Q5 with the new 2X on the trunk button, click once and then hold on the second click.

Ah ha! Wasn't holding it long enough. As far as distance, I tried it at different distances and did find that about 3 feet is the max distance.............Thanks

You can close it with the keyfob on the Prestige but I'd bet that you could on the Premium Plus also. You have to be close and hold the trunk button for about 1 second. It beeps a few times before it closes to warn anyone standing under it.

I know it's for safety and all that, but it's ridiculous how close you need to be. You're within arms reach, you might as well just hit the button on the tailgate.

+1

Didn't I read on here once that you can close it with the button inside the car? If that's true then the proximity requirement for the key fob is even dumber, because when you're inside the car it harder to see if there's anything blocking the hatch (or a kid about to jump in it).

My thoughts exactly. Why bother with the fob?!
If it was a safety thing, then surely opening the gate would be a safety thing from a distance??? [well maybe not as much]
