Default Replacing Steering Wheel-need VAGCOM?

Hey everyone-the steering wheel on my 2005 A6 is fairly worn and I've found several online that I could replace it with. The potential replacements (and my current) aren't heated and they don't have paddle shifters. They just have the standard controls and buttons. My question is if I need to have VAGCOM/VCDS to reprogram anything with the new wheel, or if it's simply plug and play? Appreciate the help!

If you want to program new features from the steering wheel, you'll need to program them via VCDS. If you have no interest in the new features, you won't need to...

Here's what I did:

I believe if you install one that has features other than what you have your car will complain about the mismatch, but if you replace it with the same there would be no issues.

I added paddles to mine and used the cheaper XTOOL VAG401 to set it up. It was actually very easy. While I had the steering wheel off I replaced my wiper stalk to gain the MPG computer, I vehicle didn't have the RESET button. Now it does.

I had replaced the worn (non heated) wheel on my 05 with an OEM with paddle shifters. I did need VAGCOM to add the paddle functions. I fond the paddles pretty useless, but I also own and drive true manual shift vehicles too. I lost that A6 to a deer, but I did take the wheel off since it was only about a year old. I paid $150 for it, but would let it go for less. I just haven't gotten around to listing it on eBay. Here is the thread I made when I replaced my old one: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a6-...2915549/page3/

PM if you are interested in buying it. It's in perfect condition and I can send pictures if you're interested. It is the beige/camel color. It is like this one in beige and with paddles from the same seller: https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-EURO-Au...EAAOSwrR5bhZiP
