Hello everyone,

I am looking at purchasing a 2016 a3 quattro 2.0t with 15k miles on it for 20k. Without going into every detail, I am a little gun shy from my last purchase, which was a Subaru legacy gt which started with a head gasket blowing less than 200 miles after I bought it, and ended in the Attorney General getting involved to refund my money. What I would really like to know is if these cars have major issues that they are known for, problems don't scare me but if I can anticipate them or potentially get them fixed under the CPO warranty I will at least know what to look for. Some of the things that I have read but am not sure if they apply right to this engine is carbon build up on the valves, increased oil consumption due to piston rings, and possibly overheating with the 6 speed dsg. I understand these posts are not the most exciting but you would be doing me a great favor if you could help educate me on what to watch for with this model so I don't get screwed like my last purchase.

There's nothing dramatic. Could get carbon buildup eventually, but I'm at almost 80k and no issue with that yet. Might be waterpump goes out at some point, and could get a flaky DSG transmission, but could have issues with any car. I've had 6 Audis and haven't regretted any of them, with the top mileage of 205k miles on our 99 A4 when we sold it, and 144k on my 02' A4 when I sold it and it was like new condition after 14 years. Not sure that price is all that spectacular though, admittedly my S3 had 70k when I bought it for $22k, but its an S3 and has been great. Check out Car Gurus for comps - I suspect that price will turn out a bit high.

Turbo issues are not unheard of (knock on wood). Pcv valve is common.

MotoManTV suggests the 2019 all new Mazda3 is a better buy than the A3. He is a little bias and I my be to blame for him going after the A3 as he did viciously in this video. But I don't disagree that the Mazda3 is a better car, the last gen Mazda3 looked like it was poaching on the A3's turf. I financed a 2015 Audi A3 back in 2014 and the cars near paid off now. If this Mazda3 existed back when I shopping for a new car back in 2014 I probably would have test driven it.
