Default AC not cooling when car is stationary.

My 2016 A4 B9 has this issue for the last few months. When the car is stationary the AC ducts just blow air with no noticeable cooling, no matter how low the temp. is set. At speed above 25km/hr it cools perfectly.

During the same period my engine check light came on for short periods twice or thrice.

On my last visit to local dealer he informed me that the engine check was an intermittent (not static) error from the barometric sensor. They reset the ECU.

I am still facing the problem and I don't like the idea that I might have to change the barometric sensor as it is an integral part of the ECU and the car is off warranty.

Any technical insight shall be highly appreciated.

Your description makes me suspect a problem with the cooling fans at the front of your car, i.e. not enough air is moving over the AC condenser and radiator unless you are moving fast enough to get natural air circulation.

It seems odd that your dealer wouldn't easily troubleshoot this though. Did you tell them the same thing you wrote in your post?

Oh yes, the dealer went over all the "normal suspects", fan motor, coolant pressure etc. etc.

Check if the (radiator) cooling fans are running when the car is stationary and the AC is on (turn the thermostat to low and put the blower to "hi".

I had this happen to me once (20 years ago!) and it was one of the cooling fans that had its wire cut (dealer had done some work and did not properly secure the wire, which was then cut by the serpentine belt).

If the car is still under warranty let the dealer deal with it

He said it's out of warranty in the original post.

By any chance is the engine stopped because of the auto stop/start feature? You're AC wont blow cold air when your engine is in that "stand by" mode with the automatic start/stop.

Oh no, that is not the case. If a stop/start car needs power for AC, it does not stop.

The fan will still continue to blow if you are stopped with auto start/stop but the AC itself will not function until the motor starts again.
