Clean snow screen for air cleaner
This is my first post on here, so hello to all. This forum has been very helpful so far in my first ownership of an Audi.
I tried searching, but couldn't find an answer. I know this cleaning is supposed to be done every 20k miles. I'm looking to do this myself and was hoping someone could post up the instructions on how to get to the snow screen in a B9 A4.
Also, while I'm asking about 20k mile services, I know the straps and locks of the doors are supposed to be lubricated. Please excuse my ignorance, but what is meant by lubricating the straps and how does one go about doing it?
Thanks in advance.

I have cleaned the snow screen on my last Audi A6. It was not done for a while and I ended up with a MIL light because airflow was restricted. The screen is quite fine and it was clogged with pollen. I was able to get to the screen by removing the snorkel behind the grill that feeds cold air into the filter box. The screen was then left in the remaining input duct in the grill. On the A4 it appear that you need to remove the black plastic trim piece with the large sticker that says Achtung! on it. To remove this you need to remove the hood latch safety release lever. This is easy, on the rear there is a button you press and then slide the lever up and off. Then remove the Torx screws securing the plastic trim. My guess is that once you get that piece off you will see the screen.

how many filters are there in the car? The cabin and the engine air filter? Can you tell me where they are located? Sounds like a good idea to clean them off.

Has anyone confirmed that this exists? The above "appears" and "my guess is" doesn't sound like a been there/actually done that. This thread says it was deleted on the B9.
Has anyone actually found and cleaned a snow screen, as in the 20K maintenance schedule?

Mines doesn't have the snow screen. Just looked while cleaning behind the intercooler. There always quite a bit of smaller leaves etc. accumulate in the gap between intercooler and radiator (right below AC condenser). Same as StKnowwhere, I open the air filter box and blow off the debris in the chamber and on the filter periodically.

The snow screen for the type 8W is 8W0 129 054, such as https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OEM-AUD...-/353400412440.
It has two tabs at the bottom that clip into the two holes in the air duct tray 8W0 129 617, now 8W0 129 617 A ( https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...ct/8w0129617a/ ) that precedes the air guide leading to the air filter box.
It appears the snow screen was only included in early B9.0 2.0 TDI installations, and left out on most everything else and not used on any current type 8W configurations. You can always add it back.

At least I was looking in the right place. The intake diagram and photo of the part show the holes for it, but don't call for the part.
I guess I can cross this off my maintenance schedule. It also explains why many of the "how to change the air filter" videos show the need to vacuum out leaves in the box containing the filter.
