Default Potential new A6 owner

Hello everyone, we're looking at replacing our 2012 TL with something more upscale. The first thought was a 2016 Lexus GS350, but then we saw that the 2016 A6s were also in the same ballpark...cheaper actually by a couple thousand.

I know all about the stigma that Audis are unreliable, costs a ton to maintain, etc, but I'd like to hear from actual owners. Most of what I read on the internet is not really believable anyway since they usually come from people parroting things they've read or heard.

The specific model we're looking at is a 2016 3.0t Quattro Premium Plus in white with 16,767 miles on it for $33,982.

If anybody can give some real world experience regarding things that go bad, things that dont, cost of maintenance, etc, I'd really appreciate it...cuz I've always wanted to own an Audi, but always ended up buying Japanese. The 2016 A6 is just dead sexy...

A 2016 3.0T would be a good choice, good engine. They are expensive to maintain if you have to farm out all the work - - you cannot escape that reality.

I'd only be looking at CPO cars.

Welcome aboard, Nah!

Thanks! Yeah it's a CPO. I've been trying to research the maintenance costs for this specific model given the years it's been out, but it's kind of hard to find it all in one place. Got any examples of what to expect?

The absolute best thing you can do is visit one of the service writers at your dealership and ask for their printed menu of the various services as they come up. Ask about the cost of brake replacement.

Learn what their hourly labor rate is. Compare that to Acura. There's huge variance across the USA in terms of this rate.

Sounds like a plan, we're most likely going to see the dealer this Saturday.

You can find the published maintenance schedule for 2016 Audis on the Audi USA website.

I concur with the cost to maintain. These are quite pricey to keep running, but to us it is worth it. I would rather drive this than a Mitsubishi Mirage.

Check to see if the previous owner bought Audi Care, which is the pre-paid service contract that covers the 20, 30, 40, and 50k services. You could also buy the subsequent 60 and 70k services. Aside from that I was really conscious about the tire, brake pad, and rotor measurements. Since it's CPO it should be fine because it's supposed to have at least 50% life left.

EDIT: 2016 might be 15, 25, 35, and 45k.

Finding a reputable independent mechanic experienced with these cars is a way to cut easliy cut the costs of ownership. Here's an example: 15k servicing @ my indy mechanic $245. 15k servicing @ Audi $585. Same EXACT things were done.

FWIW I think you will be extremely happy with a 2016 A6. I can tell you mine has ruined me for future cars because I will have much higher expectations now...

You don't post your location (you should add that to your profile so it comes up under your name), but I assume you are in the US. I strongly recommend you find a reputable third party shop, and keep meticulous records. The dealer will be by far the most expensive place to go. Your extended warranty should address the biggest unknown, which is potential electrical issues that can take forever to track down. My experiences to date are similar to others' . My 55k service was less than half of the local dealer cost.
