RS 5 SB - Black chrome on exhaust tips peeling away
Hi all,
I've noticed that the black chrome on the exhaust tips on my RS 5 SB is peeling away in the area where the back chrome meets the inner exhaust... I've used windex for years on another Audis without any issue whatsoever, but admittedly never on black chrome. I'll accept that it wasn't smart I won't do that again but still I'm surprised it could be that bad, after all I've been useful minimum amounts so it seems more like a defect to me in how the chrome was applied.
Did anyone else have run into any similar issues so far? Or people with more experience should the black chrome really peel off that easily, is that particularly susceptible to using anything other than the mildest of product?
Thanks!

unfortunately this isn't isolated to the black chrome. My S5 tips have the same issue. I remember a thread on this forum about the same issue. I tried searching for it and found a different thread on the SQ5 forum same issue.

ahh, I think this is it.

looks like people have had varying results in getting them replaced via warranty.

Thank you for the links! I'm going to bring the car to the dealership to take a look, we'll see how it goes. I still feel this is a defect, it's not like I used an industrial cleaner... and the owner's manual makes no mention of this. But maybe windex is this black chrome's kryptonite.

I've heard of WD-40 too. I used Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and that took off some spots.

Right, so those are the black exhaust tips from the RS 5 SB's Dynamic package, specifically "RS sport exhaust system with Black tips". I don't have much carbon buildup, but rather on that picture the bright spots are where I think the black chrome (I'm assuming it's chrome, maybe it's something else) is peeling away... which again I think hard to believe windex could do (even though it wasn't the glass cleaner one, so does have some ammonia). I've used windex to cleanup the stainless steel exhaust tips on a S4 without any issue.

My tips were ceramic coated and have been extremely easy to clean with only ONR when washing my car. I swore that I would never let them get as dirty as they did on my B8 and it's been easy to clean them on my B9 as long as they are cleaned frequently enough to prevent a thick carbon build up.
