Default Tesla to J1772 Adapter

Has anyone purchased and used this Tesla to J1772 adapter? It may come in handy as I have quite a few “free” Tesla charging units avail in various parking structures and parking lots around me. I know this is not avaliable for the Tesla Supercharger but definitely would be nice to be able to roll up and use all the charging stations Tesla has installed around the country.

I read about that, seems like a good idea. When I finally get my e-tron I may end up purchasing the adapter. I will report back, but it will be a few more months. I am currently in "Leaving the Factory", so fingers crossed for July.

Aside from questions about technical compatibility, I wonder about the legality and/or ethics of using Tesla's Destination Chargers for non-Tesla vehicles. Both Tesla and the property owners have made investments with the intent of serving Tesla owners. The property owners may or may not be happy with this alternative use, but Tesla certainly will not be.

We have tesla owners who routinely show at the dealership and plug their cars in using a similar (backwards) adapter fwiw

I've considered getting this cable for cases where the destination has a J1772 and Tesla connector but the J1772 is in use.

I believe TeslaTap is the original but there is also the Quick Charge Power version, https://shop.quickchargepower.com/JD...r-JDPTRSTB.htm

Quantity discounts available at that link. Maybe group buy?

Are the Tesla chargers free? I thought that you had to pay, and that paying was handled by the Tesla vehicle.

Paid Superchargers are not compatible with this adapter. That requires a DC connection and accepted communication with the superchargers (as well as hardware compatibility).

The chargers that work with this adapter are free Tesla destination chargers (EVSE's) found at malls, hotels, etc. They are level 2 chargers very similar to the Audi and JuiceBox EVSE's. I'm assuming that the adapter emulates a Tesla communication in order to start the flow of AC power.

Thanks, that makes sense. So, a Tesla to J1772 may not be a bad thing to carry around in case of emergency.

When I thought I was getting a 3, I wired a 50-amp Tesla charger into my garage, next to my 32-amp J1772. Well, now the ETron has a 40-amp charger, so I'm considering the jesla just so I can get 8 more amps without wiring up yet another EVSE.

Also, destination charging would be nice. If I'm staying the night at a hotel that lets me use their Tesla charger, I don't consider that unethical in the slightest.
