I got my hands on a cpo S5 sportback in gorgeous tango red. It was a 6 month lease. It came with a 4.5 year (5 years from original purchase date), unlimited mileage warranty. It was a pricey car, but as someone who puts a minimum of 20k miles a year on cars, it was a compelling deal to me. The warranty is zero deductible, it’s Audi’s warranty. I paid 5k to extend it to 7.5 years. Get a loaner every time I bring it in. The car has 8k on it currently, which means I’m going to have warranty coverage for at LEAST 160k miles. Typically for road trips we take the Toyota but that’s going to change now. My guess is I’ll have about 180k miles on it before the warranty expires. I don’t see how I won’t make my money back on this but curious others thoughts. My last car was an S3, I purchased a 100k mile extended warranty and I make my money back at 75k.

Seems like a really good deal to me, 5k to basically guarantee you won’t have any headaches for the next 7 years.

Isn't there some law of the universe, where having paid out for the extra warranty it's now certain that nothing will go wrong anyway?

That’s pretty much my life’s experiences. Why I buy AppleCare on my Apple devices. Faith is good but Insurance is better!

5k for the last 3 years. And this is if he still have the car.

Considering the repair costs are a lot cheaper on average than the price of the extended warranty, I prefer to assume the risk. On average, I will always be a winner.

Lease-end protection here. Always a good return on investment which covers dings, general wear and a fresh set of rubber if needed.

Even if not this sounds like an amazing deal...provided OP knows he'll continue to love the car that long. 7+ years is IMO a long time to own something in this class even if you love it, but it's an eternity if you don't love the way it drives/works/looks/etc.

That's not to say he won't. My father owned and daily drove his E46 M3 for 10 years and, having driven it plenty of times myself, I can say we both felt it was as fun and exciting when he finally traded it in as it was the day it showed up from from Germany. It was flawless for many years....but things started breaking on it an awful lot near the back half of its life and an extended warranty would have definitely helped. But even with a zero-dollar repair bill, the sheer amount of time spent replacing failed rear springs (twice!), an AC compressor that required the entire dashboard to be removed to access, several SMG transmission problems, a fuel injector issue, a dead alternator etc. would have all been infinitely frustrating if that car didn't remain completely awesome and exhilarating to drive for 10 years straight when it was running. Fortunately, it did and I still maintain it to be the best and most exciting car I've ever driven and/or ridden in.

My S4, while putting down 25 more HP and over 100 more torque with much better 0-60 / 0-100 numbers, is numb by comparison (except during quattro season).

Close. The law states that something will go wrong within a month of said warranty expiring.

I bought a CPO as well. An a5 Prestige with 6,000 approximate miles. It was a loner. So I was the original owner got the full warranty and got the extra year. I bought 2 more years of warranty. I'm 65 and live 2 hours from the nearest dealer. So if the auto needs anything warranty. I normally don't buy extended warranties but I plan to keep the car as long as possible. For me it's a good deal.
