Default Oil change reminder

My 2017 still have another 5K miles until the next oil change but I start getting notification every time I start the car. We got another car this year so we did not drive this car much, it almost a year since last oil change. Is there a away to set the reminder base on the miles instead of the date?

The car is going to ask for service every 365 days or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first. (< -- this protects your warranty coverage if you are in the USA.)

I believe you can re-program some of those parameters with a tool like VCDS. The dealer can as well, but not likely to do it.

On some cars, you can reset the oil warning in the MMI system.

I would change oil at 365 days, regardless of mileage, if you want to maintain your warranty.

I'm in the same boat in my S5. It will require annual service #3 next month, and only 17K miles on the clock.

Oil change on the new gen cars is due once per year or 10k miles, whichever comes first.

You can reset the interval yourself within the MMI, but, make sure you set a reminder on your phone for the actual year point

X2 if it’s been a year just change your oil (or get it changed).

If you want to neglect it you would’ve been better off buying one of these:

Lol. I though only lowend car need to oil change regular. I had Mer and BMW that only need to oil change when hit required miles. Event my wife 2011 Q5 and my daughter 2015 Q3 still going strong with regular maintenance but oil change only every 10K miles.

Both Mercedes and BMW have intervals on most cars exactly like Audi - 1 year, or 10k miles, whichever comes first. The earlier of time or mileage is common on any somewhat modern car I can think of, regardless of brand.

Are they special? LOL I didnt know. What you are missing is a duration limit for oil change. At least annually.

After a certain amount of time oil starts to go bad. That’s why there’s the mileage or “one year” recommendation.

True. Even new oil has a shelf life. I had 2 quarts of Castrol syn that I purchased for my first 2 Audi's "just in case". Six years later, never opened, turned them in for proper disposal and bought 2 fresh quarts.
