Default ACC, braking guard, and lane assist unavailable

This week I received warnings that the ACC, breaking guard, and lane assist were unavailable. After reviewing VCDS logs I've zeroed in on the following issues:

Codes were cleared but the issues persist. On two occasions since the initial issue ACC, lane assist, and presumably braking guard came back to life but on next drive cycle the issues came back. Doing some research I started to look into the camera and imaging processing system components. So far I've accessed the windshield camera and removed and reseated the cables. My next step is to do the same on the image processing unit under the passenger seat. If simple removal and reseating don't fix this I'm hoping someone here has more ideas to try. Would an Audi dealer or indy shop have a way to test these components more thoroughly than a scan? Is one part of the system (camera or processing unit) more likely to fail than the other? If I source my own parts would that be a simple swap out or is special programming or adaptation required?

You're not alone. My 2015 3.0 A8L does this every time the temperatures reach and sustain over 95 degrees. I thought it was an ACC sensor issue - and I pulled the same codes as you in VCDS. What really makes me believe it is a camera/imagine issue is that when I try to turn on lane assist after the error pops up it tells me something about no vision from the camera. I took the camera out, like you, and reseated the cables - I even used a q-tip dipped in windex to clean the inside of the windshield behind the camera mount thinking perhaps that would help - and it hasn't. I look forward to seeing what progress you are able to make. I really never use those features but it would be nice to have them.

I find it interesting that you mention the temperature. I almost thought of mentioning that one potential change in context for this issue was that things are starting to heat up here in N. Texas. This will be my first summer with the car (bought back in Nov. 2018) so I am curious as to what to expect in warmer temperatures.

Something I did find on the Ross Tech forums is a user who claims that a swap out of the cable fixed their issue. That seems like a real pain in the *** to swap out. Said they trimmed some plastic off the connector ends to create a better connection as their test.

Has anyone here tried or heard of this fix?

I have had a 2012 A7, 2016 A7, and currently have a 2014 A8L, all of which have had the driver assistance package. During the summer when the car sat in the sun while I was working, I would get all of the driver assist faults when I started it up. However, if I drove it for a while with the A/C on and restarted the car after going to the store, etc. the faults were gone.

I see this thread isn't too old... I'm having the issue in a 2013 A6. It seems like a loose connection since it comes on right away sometimes, and sometimes after driving several miles. Annoying since I'm starting to get the itch to trade in the car which is otherwise in great shape. I have a good indy shop I need to take it to anyway so hopefully they can track it down for a reasonable price, I will let you know what I find.

That would be great Cuba. On my back from picking my car up in Chicago, I had the same issue/error happen twice. Since the car was "new to me", I didn't know if I did something to trigger it. Thanks for digging in to this, Cuba.

I will note, it wasn't overly hot that day. Maybe around 75 degrees Fahrenheit with partial sun.

Just my $0.02, I live in Florida and as such see pretty high temps (car was reporting 107 today when I set off from work) but I haven't had a single issue (touch wood) with this as of yet, maybe (hopefully) I got lucky and got a Wednesday car! 😂😂

Hey Jibsymalone, what model year is your vehicle? Wondering if there was an engineering fix after MY 2015. Maybe they updated the cable between camera and processing unit.

Slight update, the shop just called and it passed inspection fine but they said they pulled a few codes related to this ACC fault. He said he's not sure yet and was asking how I want to proceed with diagnosing it. Apparently the camera unit is not talking to the computer. Maybe a loose connection, maybe the camera is dead/dying, but it will cost me $140/hr to find out. Anyone know what one of those cameras go for these days??

WISH ME LUCK... I'll be bringing it back in next week sometime to have them track it down.
