Default TPMS

I've seen it discussed before but I was never clear what our tire pressure monitoring system consists of. I am buying a set of 22" wheels online and the company offers a pretty good price for a complete package with tires, mounted and balanced. I read that there are NO sensors in our wheels and that I can just simply order the correct wheels and tires complete, ready to install.

Is this correct and if so, how does the electronics work to monitor pressure drops without a sensor in/on the rim?

PC, if you are in the USA, there won't be in-wheel sensors in your Q7. The newer cars use the "indirect" system.

As mentioned on another thread, if you need actual pressures, there is this available:

TPMS TPMS

Have not used it so cannot comment on quality or function....

I have the smaller, color display version shown in that link. Just like my remote TPMS I use for my travel trailer, it reads a few pounds lower than several mechanical and electronic tire pressure gauges that I have tried, but it is consistent. For the peace of mind, I think it is worth it and I like having it. Sits nicely in the front cubby area without getting in the way.

For what its worth I think the indirect system works great, I picked up something in my tire the other day and an error message told me which tire was losing pressure while going ~60 on the interstate I just pulled into a service station a couple miles down the road and could see a bulge, I ended up stopping and spend a few bucks on a tire pressure gauge (and it looked worse at that point) so I just drove to a repair shop $50 and an hr later I got it fixed and was back on the road. So the runflats did their job too.

I use it and it works pretty well (within 1 PSI accuracy as measured by me)

I went with the internal TPMS system like the one below. Costco charged me $60 to swap out all four regular valve stems. It works well so far.
