I have a 2015 Q5 and the mirrors fold in and out but not smoothly as they did from the factory. I've taken this to the dealer to fix but it reappears after a while (maybe due to being bumped in parking lots?). I'd love to fix this on my own without having to go to the dealer every time. Is there a way to fix this? Any advice would be appreciated!

I have noticed this too on my 2014 Q5 with 70,000 miles. I think it is friction of the housings where they pivot and I am going to apply some spray lithium grease in that area. I will let you know how it works out.

I just finished lubricating the folding mirrors. The spray on white lithium grease worked well. They operate smoothly now.
With your folding mirrors in "Up" retracted position, notice the areas that are exposed that are covered when mirrors are in normal position. Apply spray on white lithium grease to these areas. Look for surfaces both on the moving part of mirror as well as the mirror mount. Use your finger to rub the grease on areas the spray didn't cover. Operate the mirrors for a few cycles. Then leave the mirrors in normal position. While in this position, remove excess grease with a rag. When you lock vehicle you will see some grease on the surfaces exposed. I am going to leave that there for now.
I’ll give that a try. I’ll have to pick up some white lithium grease. Is that easy to come by?
Yes. Any auto department store (Walmart, maybe Target, or auto part store). Make sure you get a spray can with the red tube to let you spray tight areas.
I think the problem we are solving is grime from the winter roads that is embedded between the surfaces. I can see many grooves from grit on my housings.
