Rebuilding rear calipers
My one rear caliper piston is hanging up, extremely hard to push back in. Rather than buying a new caliper ($$) i want to rebuild it but cannot find a new piston for it, only seals.
Once i take it apart and clean everything inside real nice, will it be ok? Or is there enough corrosion on the piston or bore that without a new piston its not really possible?
Thanks,

Not really. I tried shoving my dust boot back in there and thre was just no way for it to go past the piston and body interface.
Im assuming whol episton has to come out, put dust boot on piston then put seal into body first followed by piston

Greg,
Ok thanks. Seems like a straight forward job.

- detach caliper
- turn piston clockwise until fully detached.
- clean parts, lube
- attached boot to piston
- screw on piston to the caliper body
- reattach caliper

I can only speak for my 06 and what I did correct or not
unplug ebrake harness
disconnected flex line
separated e brake motor
put block of wood in caliper use small tap of air from the compressor in the in flex line hole to push the piston out (it doesn't spin out like a normal rear brake caliper)
or you could use an allen after you remove the e brake motor (youll see what I mean)
then pull out the boot and square seal
now I had tonnes of aluminum corrosion and used a pick and a thin brush wheel for my dremel
clean up caliper and piston (had black just stuck to it from the disintegrating seals)
re-assemble caliper making sure the ebrake motor and piston with the gear thing in the piston is all the way retracted
