AWD Dyno's....
Ok. so we have AMS in Carson and we have Harmann Motive in Torrance.
One has a sweet Maha dyno room you could eat off of.
One has a Dyno Jet in a garage.
One is 2x the $$$ the other one is.
What is the thoughts of the two types of Dyno's ?
Which is more correct ? or is it all a matter of interpritation ?
Mustang, Maha, Dyno Jett ??? all yeild different numbers usually.
Who do you use in So Cal and why ?
kj

Uh oh....
Some folks don't like the MAHA because it's not as optimistic. The load factors associated with the dinky brakes on the Dynojet are... well... not realistic, but the numbers are accordingly happy.
The MAHA is the dyno of choice in Germany, and amongst the manufacurers of German cars.
The Mustang is a very nice dyno as well, and generates loads more in line with reality, but not equivalent to those of the MAHA.
Now... cue 1badS4 who will gladly try to convince us all that the MAHA generates too much load, and that his car broke because of it. (1.9 BAR and 20+ degrees of timing will do that.) The funny thing is, nobody else's car has died aboard that dyno.
The interesting thing is that the Wheel vs. Crank calculations generated by the MAHA seem to be pretty accurate. (I believe a stock US spec B5 S4 makes 248 crank horsepower according the coastdown calculations on Marc's MAHA.
I stand by my constant assertion that numbers cannot and should not be compared, from chassis dyno to chassis dyno, or day to day.

He doesn't. That's the problem...
Anyway. I was there, right next the the car and the console. I saw the dyno, and two other sources of boost data. They correlated perfectly. I also spent the rest of the day and some of my own money cleaning up after Brian's ****ty dyno queen code, while he spent hours trying to figure out how to avoid telling his Papa that he just broke his car again... Then, two days later, he has a the ***** to claim huge power numbers without including the fact that he aspirated his engine block... and then, when the blanks get filled in because he couldn't keep his delicate little ego in check, he has the unmitigated gaul to blame it on the MAHA, nevermind the fact that no other car has ever blown up on that rig.
What a juvenile little punk he continues to be... and then wonders why not even his own mechanics have any repect for him. (Nevermind that his tuners called me to find out what happened because they didn't believe him.) Now he's going to moan about me not keeping my mouth shut, and I am going to remind him that I didn't say a word, and if he hadn't tried to claim the numbers he vented out the bottom of his motor, nobody who did, would have breathed a word.
The bottom line... If a car can't hold together on a dyno pull, it's poorly set up. (More accurately, in this case it was wrecklessly set up.)
-Michael.

Let me just add...
I don't feel "good" about saying such things to and about Brian, but I feel a whole lot less good about seeing him try to repeatedly down AMS and its good people with BS, purely for the benefit of his own ego.

Dynojet's suck mmmkay. They are fun for dyno days because they are cheap and
yeild numbers that can be compared between all the cars that were there that day.
Dynojets should NEVER be used for tuning IMO because you will never see the load conditions of the small roller dynojet on the road. Well maybe going downhill but other than that......
The dyno at Harman is VERY optimistic. We tested it by dynoing my car at GIAC then driving straight to Harman. Harman's dynojet read over 35whp higher than the GIAC Mustang. Also be weary of the owner and operator of Harman. The kid has no clue WTF he is doing and I almost didn't trust him to run my car on the dyno. Make sure you watch him closely if you do go there. Last time I was there they cracked my RS4 bumper backing it off the dyno...........

I understand what you're saying about passing blame, but did a post get deleted?
b/c I didn't see anything about him passing blame on this thread? I just caught what was posted on this thread by late last night. He told me he put all that behind him, I may be wrong though...
