OT: Must-see/do activities for someone new to the Atlanta-metro area?

My sister just moved to the area for a job and hasn't had much time to go exploring, so I'm hoping to help her get acquainted to the city. That said, she took a pay cut to move to Atlanta, so money is also a bit tight.

She's, most recently, a transplant from DC and has told me she misses some of the "big-city" feel of living in DC.

Can anyone suggest:
(1) Some all-purpose fun/interesting activities in or around Atlanta (ie, what would you tell a friend to check out if coming to Atlanta for the first time? Preference for experiences unique to Atlanta)?
(2) A sense for some of the more metropolitan areas in Atlanta? She currently lives in a suburb of the city, so where should she go to get more of a vibrant city feel?
(3) I'm also planning and paying for an outing for her and her fiance. Any ideas for a half- to full-day activity?

Medalsome Mondays at 10 High (on Saturday), The Clairmont Lounge...

The Aquarium, Saturday Night at The W in Midtown, The Art Walk in Castleberry, Bloodys on the deck of 6 Feet Under (West Side), Brunch at Murphys in The Highlands, a Hot Dog at The Varsity on Spring and a tetanus shot after going to the Clairmont Lounge and eating a Varsity Hot Dog.

: )

High Museum, Atlantic Station, Figgos (anywhere), one trip to the Underground,....

ML King Center, the Cyclorama, Stone Mountain, all good highlights.

LOL! at "a tetanus shot".

Hmmmmm, I'm overdue for a V trip. It's been more than 3 months/3000 miles.

King Tut at the Civic Center for a little while.

And the High Museum has the Chinese terracotta soldiers through at least January. Went to King Tut Sunday, have terracotta tix for later in the month.

The Atlanta Historical Society is also worthwhile.
