A4 Sport Springs vs Coilovers

Hello Team,

I now have 18 wheels. As you know I've reduced the wheel gap but I have also raised the car overall. I am not interested in slamming my car and having do 3 levels of height.

Do I just need those Eibach sport spings or do I have to get coilovers? I just want to lower the vehicle for aesthetic reasons without completely killing the comfort.

Don't know how low you want your car to be. But am looking at modifying my A4 to improve stability and handling. Tuning shop advised to get H&R sport springs. Will lower car by inch or so. But mainly will improve ride and handling without being too harsh. Told me that coil overs would significantly increase ride harshness.

From my experience, I agree. Unless you pony up for the top of the line H&R or Bilstein coilovers, the ride is generally more harsh than a sport spring sport shock combo. Although, a preponderance of coilover owners slam them so there is hardly any suspension travel before it hits the bump stops.

That said, general consensus is that if the lowering is more than an inch, it may shorten the life of the stock length shocks due to the possibility of bottoming out in the shock body and it operating at a different level than designed inside the shock tube. Sport shocks are recommended any drop more than an inch.

How did you raise the car? did you not Calculate the overall height of your stock wheels and the convert that to your new wheels and tire combo?
