Car to Car Bluetooth Communication???

I was driving my 07 S4 on the way to selling it, with my brother behind me driving me 13 A6. I noticed my phone's audio wasn't working and then i suddenly got a text from my brother saying my phone was connected to the A6 still and he was getting my turn-by-turn directions!!

Anyways, this got me thinking... is it possible to connect two cars together via bluetooth and communicate from car to car?? Has anybody heard of this or know if its something possible through MMI (i'm doubting it)? It would be a very cool feature during multi-car road trips.

Because your phone was within range, the bluetooth in the A6 MMI was apparently still paired with your phone. If your brother had been a block away, the pairing connection would have dropped.

In any case, there is no way to have two MMIs communicate via bluetooth with each other. You need a phone as a host which can only communicate with one paired bluetooth device, i.e. a car, at a time.

A class 1 Bluetooth device has at best a 100m/328ft range. That's not accounting for the fact that the MMI's Bluetooth transceiver is inside the car surrounded by a metal cage (your car) acting as a Faraday cage and weakening the signal.
