So if i just want to use nav it doesnt really matter if i get a euro or us version? What other cost will there be besides the unit and install. like discs and what not. I dont need bt or sat radio, i just want an rns-e. Ive done quite a bit of searching and am still unsure.

The big cost will be the unit (A6 units are harder to find nowadays). Make sure you find that first before you try to get anything else. The CANGATE is a must for your 2000 to convert the CANBUS signals to something the RNS-E can recognize. That way, your clock will be correct (as well as your travel time estimates and arrival times). If you find a headunit, then contact bjarne from the navplus forum for the cangate, then find out about hernesses and adaptors once those are lined up. It is not an overnight thing, unless you find a complete setup that someone else is pulling ou of their car with all the goodies.

Also, make sure you are getting the right unit. The version for the B6/B7 A4 will NOT fit the A6. You need to find one for the C5 platform. Some guys with B5 S4s used the C5 A6 model in their cars, so they will fit as long as they have not altered the faceplate.
