Default HELP PLEASE - "Telephone Not Ready"

I just purchased Audi Cradle kit and applicable phone for my 2006 S4 Avant w/ Tech Package (i.e. telephone & Bluetooth prep, supposedly..). Right from Audi Phone List: Cradle Part# 4F0 051 435 B, and Motorola V620 cell phone (and I checked the phone firmware - it is newer than minimum req'd"). I was pretty hyped about having my phone tucked away in the console, charging and connected to the external antenna, but........

I installed the cradle and inserted phone, but car doesn't seem to find the phone. Message says insert phone but all I get is "Phone Not Ready"

Is there some computer code that must be changed (e.g. VAG-COM'd)in order for the telephone to be found? or do I perhaps have a defective cradle/phone?

p.s. the phone works perfectly; just not thru the Audi system

THX for any help.

Default post script .... maybe a "never mind"

Maybe I was mis-informed (by dealer) about what functionality the cradle provides. I THOUGHT cell connected with the Audi phone system thru wires in cradle, but maybe that's wrong - do you still have to use Bluetooth with the cradle? Is that correct?

Phonebook is visible to Audi, and phone dials when I turned on BT.

Stupid me ?

Default You should not need BT if you have the cradle

but you may need to "pair" the phone with the cradle. That was at least the case with the older cradles. Didn't the cradle or the car come with instructions?

I agree. That's what the manual says. It also says that all you have to do is put the phone in the cradle. I'm going back to dealer to get a replacement cradle, and whatever troubleshooting they want. For $360 it should work -- ouch.

Default What headunit do you have? It's my understanding that the pre-bluetooth telephone prep

(the cradle) was designed to interface with the Nav units.

Mike,

Sorry - I don't know what a "headunit" is...

but I do not have Nav, just the Technology Package. FWIW, I looked at your pictures, and my console etc. looks just like yours, after I inserted the cradle.

You should probably ask your questions over at www.navplus.us. They're the telematics experts.

Default RESOLVED !!

Bad connection at back of phone. There's a rubber plug in phone that needs to be removed to connect to external antenna. I HAD removed it, but there was some remaining residue that was apparently stopping connection, and I'm guessing that the system must use that connection as a signal that the phone is in cradle. The service manager (who has much better "near vision" than me) saw the problem, and did a rubber-ectomy. After re-installing phone in cradle, the system works as expected: charging and phonebook immediately available to car system. Y A Y!!
